It appears Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is going to find the money to sign RFA Mitch Marner by trading a pencil eraser for a Porche. He is about half-way there. There is a legitimate worry around the league that big-name RFAs will remain unsigned into the regular season. The Canucks are working very hard to deal Louis Erickson and the Edmonton Oilers are coming to decision time on forward Jesse Puljujarvi. And former Pittsburgh Penguins winger Phil Kessel will be counted upon for leadership in Arizona.

First, Seattle ownership offered praise for Ron Francis. Francis was a late-emerging name in their GM search, but the bet here says they got a good one who will not only learn from his time in Carolina but improve, too. Seattle ownership offered praise on Fan 590 in Toronto (Sportsnet)

Perhaps tutoring kids how to put the puck in the net will rejuvenate and challenge Kessel in a way which keeps him engaged. That could be an interesting twist.
