PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins controlled most of the game against the Ottawa Senators, Friday at PPG Paints Arena en route to a 5-3 win at PPg Paints Arena. Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski reports from the arena, there were two main takeaways which could reverberate well beyond the singular win.
Dan looks at the performances of several new Penguins, including Nick Bjugstad and Teddy Blueger and the significance of their success. Blueger scored his first NHL goal and Bjugstad quickly earned his first point as Pittsburgh Penguin.
Bjugstad with Jared McCann was acquired by the Penguins from Florida on Friday for talented but struggling center Derick Brassard and fourth liner Riley Sheahan. The Penguins also sent three picks, including a second rounder to Florida.
Bjugstad was the second line center Friday as Evgeni Malkin was out with an upper-body injury. Bjugstad’s line with Bryan Rust and Phil Kessel produced a pair of goals, both by Rust (13, 14).
