Penguins Postgame: THE Important Takeaway from Win in NSH

Published

NASHVILLE, Tenn — The Pittsburgh Penguins now have more regulation wins than losses, but it wasn’t easy Thursday night. The Penguins not only found themselves on the wrong end of a (likely) missed call that led to a goal, but they also found themselves far too aggressive against the Nashville Predators, leading to a bevy of high-danger scoring chances.

And four goals against.

But the Penguins beat Nashville 5-4 in overtime.

The Penguins are learning. They didn’t give up or accept the defeat. Instead, with an angry side-eye from captain Sidney Crosby, who had four points, including his first goal in 11 games, the team is figuring out how to win without being at their best … or even close to it.

“We learned a lot of lessons the hard way,” joked Rust after the game.

Pittsburgh Hockey Niow’s Dan Kingerski (that’s me) did the first take of the Five-Minute Penguins Postgame from the arena, but an echoing hallway and beeping forklifts forced a second take in the wee hours Friday morning. After talking with Crosby and Rust, who scored the overtime winner, the emerging lesson was obvious.
