Penguins Postgame: the Goofs, the Goods, and the Big Worries

The Pittsburgh Penguins were eventually bounced out of their own arena Wednesday. A game and a season that began with excitement quickly turned as sour. Penguins scoring chances became Penguins mistakes and the New York Rangers counter-attacked then attacked in a 6-0 Rangers’ win at PPG Paints Arena.



The number of good performances was overshadowed by the wilting effort and crumbling game.

From PPG Paints Arena, we break down the few bright spots, including Rutger McGroarty’s NHL debut, as well as untangle some uneven performances, including Tristan Jarry and Jesse Puljujarvi, and the messy power play debut.

It was a night that bewildered coach Mike Sullivan and quickly humbled the Penguins players.

DOC once again proves he has no business in a Top 6 role. Once Rust is back, down in the lineup he goes. As for Jarry, we continue to wish and hope, but those feelings always dissipate with his performances.

Gretzky put it best in his TV analysis. One team is probably top seed in the East and the other is hopeful to land on 8th seed. It shows…….
