PHN Penguins Postgame: What Went Wrong, Winless in 7?!

Published

on

The answers are shrinking. The Pittsburgh Penguins are winless in seven, near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, and now can’t find a win even when outplaying their opponents.

The Seattle Kraken beat the Penguins 3-2 with two third-period goals on Saturday. The Penguins rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the middle of the third period, but former teammate Brandon Tanev kicked a puck to Yanni Gourde near the Penguins’ net for the game-winning goal.

Get Dave Molinari’s Penguins recap here.

And Kris Letang’s defiant postgame comments, “We’re confident in the group we have.”

The Penguins limited Seattle offensively. Outshot them 37-28, outchanced them 29-20, and had more high-danger chances (12-9) but lost anyway.

After speaking with Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust, and Tristan Jarry in the Penguins locker room and the Mike Sullivan postgame press conference, we try to provide some answers.

Crosby and Jake Guentzel combined for both Penguins’ goals, including Crosby’s 900 career assist.

Can’t blame turnovers, the fourth line, or Brian Dumoulin. It was another tough loss and a head-scratching evening for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It’s not just a monkey, it is now a gigantic gorilla on the backs of the Pens & the coaching staff after #7 loss. Especially tough after out playing the Kraken on the ice but losing on the scoreboard. It is undeniable there are reason why a team takes it on the chin.

I noticed more grey hair on Mike Sullivan in recent days.

I’m sure Mike Sullivan is not to blame, and I’m sure his system works. But is it possible that a different coach could give them a jolt and offer something new that could push them out of their current rut? The answer to that is, of course, yes. Mike Sullivan is a GREAT coach. But I cannot understand why it’s so out of the question for so many, so often, that he may… Read more »

Duuuude. Did you even watch the game?
Tanev did not kick the puck to Gourde for the GWG, he ripped it past Jarry.
C’mon man!

You say you pride yourself on years of hockey reporting.. We expect you to at least get the goals right. That is not too much to ask.
