CRANBERRY — Change the mindset. With the 20th-ranked power play and a seven-game winless streak, even Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan wants the Penguins’ power play with a few Hall of Famers to change its ways.
Or, as the ticket-buying faithful might say, “Shooooot!!”
With the abysmal Penguins penalty kill hovering around 73%, the power play is both tasked with gaining momentum and balancing the special team deficit. Before facing the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, the Penguins’ power play is at 20%, which is 20th in the NHL. The penalty kill has improved to 26th.
