Pittsburgh Penguins practice

Forwards Jake Guentzel and Josh Archibald were not on the ice for Pittsburgh Penguins practice Friday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Coach Mike Sullivan said Guentzel was ill and Archibald was given a maintenance day.

The Penguins have not played since a loss Wednesday at Buffalo, and they had a scheduled day off Thursday.

The Penguins face Seattle at home Saturday and will be trying to snap a six-game losing streak (0-5-1), including blowing two-goal, third-period leads in each of the past two games. The status of Guentzel and Archibald for that game is unclear.

Center Jeff Carter, who has been out because of an injury, was not on the ice. Center Teddy Blueger, who is eligible to come off of LTIR Saturday, was on the ice in apparently full capacity.

Guentzel is tied for third on the team with eight points and tied for first with five goals.

With the two forwards missing, Danton Heinen moved to Guentzel’s spot on the top line, with Rickard Rakell taking Guentzel’s spot on the top power-play unit and Sam Poulin joining the second unit.

The lines and pairings looked like this:

Danton Heinen-Sidney Crosby-Bryan Rust

Jason Zucker-Evgeni Malkin-Rickard Rakell

Brock McGinn-Teddy Blueger-Kasperi Kapanen

Ryan Poehling-Sam Poulin-Drew O’Connor

Brian Dumoulin-Kris Letang

Marcus Pettersson-Jeff Petry
