Rookie forward Rutger McGroarty was not on the ice Thursday at Pittsburgh Penguins practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

McGroarty, who has been impressive in five games in his most recent call-up, left Tuesday’s game against Chicago after blocking a shot with his left foot. There was no post-game update. We hope to get more information after practice.

Also missing were forwards Noel Acciari, Matt Nieto and Blake Lizotte.

Before practice, injured forward Philip Tomasino (concussion) and defenseman P.O Joseph (unspecified) skated. Joseph has been skating

With injuries piling up, the Penguins brought in reinforcements from the AHL. Emil Bemstrom, Vasily Ponomarev and Valtteri Puustinen arrived and participated in practice.

The Penguins were scheduled to fly to New Jersey after practice for a game Friday. The Devils have clinched a playoff spot and a first-round matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With 3 games and a week left, no one will need to clear waivers to go back to wbs that they called up recently. It’s 10 games or 30 days right?

50 cents says that McGroarty has a LBI. *eye roll*

He’s done for the season. Possibly back for a deep playoff run.

Like the call ups, wish someone else would be on the 2nd line instead of Heinen – one of the 2 VPs. DH playing there really does nothing. Ponomarev getting 4th line minutes is an indictment of where they feel his progress is.

I would have liked to see Poulin get an opportunity on 2nd line.
