The Pittsburgh Penguins top prospects will face the top prospects of the Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, and Buffalo Sabres this weekend at the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, but one of their most promising young players has been scratched from the tournament.

The Penguins announced second-round pick Tanner Howe (46th overall) will not participate after suffering a facial injury. He is listed as day-to-day.

No further details are available. Howe participated in the Team Canada Summer Showcase in early August.

The team officially added Rutger McGroarty to the Prospects Challenge roster and removed Brayden Yager, whom the Penguins traded for McGroarty.

The Penguins begin the Prospect Challenge Friday at noon against the Boston prospects team. They will play the Ottawa prospects on Saturday at noon. On Monday, the Penguins face the Buffalo Sabres in the primetime game.
