It was a pretty good day to be a Canadian on Saturday. Team Canada survived a Finland comeback to win the World Juniors in overtime, and Nathan MacKinnon had an entire city parade in Halifax. Russia and Belarus remain banned from international play. Philadephia Flyers fans are looking side-eyed at Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ron Hextall as the Penguins signed a former Flyers draft pick. And for all of the Penguins trade talk this summer, this week showed us the price to move salary. Can the Penguins afford the going rates on the NHL trade market?
Oh, and Kenny Pickett lit up Twitter like a Christmas tree with a near-perfect performance.
***This is kind of a big deal: You should watch WPXI’s Final Word tonight. I’ll be on the show with Tim Benz and Chris Carter. It’s not yet announced (this doesn’t count), but the Sports Now PGH family will be doing a lot of TV work, and our stories will appear on the WPXI webpage. It’s a pretty big deal for us. So, watch Final Word after the news tonight. Then yell at me on Twitter later!
The brand keeps growing. …and GROWING.

Alex Ovechkin doesn’t have No. 8 on his hockey bag. It has the number 69. (insert giggle here). There was a legit reason for not using 8, but I’ll make you click on Sammi’s story to find out. Washington Capitals.
Montreal Hockey Now: Logan Mailloux was not a popular figure in Montreal despite being drafted in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft. He had that “incident” in Sweden in which he Snapchatted a photo from an encounter with a local woman and tagged her on the photo as he sent it to teammates. Mailloux paid his price in Sweden but was suspended from the OHL indefinitely. He’s undergoing counseling, and the question is — will he be able to attend training camp? Montreal Canadiens.
Philly Hockey Now: Two Flyers prospects won gold, and Flyers fans are again side-eying Ron Hextall for signing former Flyers draft pick St. Ivany. You gotta enjoy that, right? Philadelphia Flyers.
Detroit: Sometimes sports bettors lose their minds. David Perron is on the board for the Hart Trophy?! Detroit Red Wings.
