Dan’s Daily: Penguins Rebounds, Will NHL Return the Nordiques?

Published

on

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, Marcus Pettersson

How would you feel about the Arizona Coyotes pulling up stakes and swapping chipotle BBQ for poutine? There is a growing noise that a team could land north of Montreal and Gary Bettman also appears to be investigating the possibility. The Vancouver Canucks season is about to be pushing daisies, and anger is rising. The Fenway Group tried to merge with the Toronto Maple Leafs ownership before buying the Pittsburgh Penguins, and we looked at three crucial Penguins rebounds.

Oh, and Marc-Andre Fleury won a 1-0 shutout for Chicago.

We’ll give Sportsnet top billing today. Elliotte Friedman had the scoop on Fenway and MLSE.

Sportsnet Video: Friedman gave more background on Fenway. They’re an aggressive, forward-thinking group, at least in a business sense. Fenway Group proposed merger talks with MLSE, which owns the Toronto Maple Leafs and big-time media in Canada. Talks went nowhere, and now they’re coming to Pittsburgh…

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Jason Zucker and Marcus Pettersson were universally thought to be the Penguins trade bait. Now, they’re playing some of the best hockey in the Penguins lineup. From trade block to essentials…

We had an interesting question on the Penguins postgame show Saturday night (we’re doing more and more of those–make sure to join our YouTube channel).

PHN: Which player is the Penguins Jenga piece? If you pulled one player, who would topple the tower? I took a good swing, but I don’t think my answer was who most expected to be the Penguins Jenga block.

NHL News & National Hockey Now:

Daily Faceoff: Gary Bettman will meet with the Quebec Premier about bringing a team back to Quebec City. The hockey world is ready, willing, and waiting for the story to become a reality.

So, Quebec Nordiques history would include Winnipeg Jets and Arizona Coyotes lure, but Quebec Nordiques history would remain in Colorado. Got it?

Washington: Ok, this is my favorite story–Vitek Vanecek was a Seattle Kraken for seven days before Seattle traded him back to Washington. So…during the Capitals first visit, yep, Seattle paid tribute to Vanecek…

NYI: The Islanders stink this season. Frustration is growing. One night after the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Maple Leafs–the Maple Leafs dismantled the Islanders.

Try not to smile.

Vancouver: Marc-Andre Fleury notched another shutout. Marc-Andre Fleury won the goalie duel, 1-0 over the Vancouver Canucks.

Montreal: Ben Chiarot is on the NHL trade block. Where will the defenseman land?

Vegas: More NHL trade ponderances. Vegas will eventually be over the salary cap when Jack Eichel returns. Is Mattias Janmark an essential player or trade bait?

Colorado: Nathan MacKinnon is back at practice. The Colorado Avalanche need their star.

Calgary: The Calgary Flames are a lockdown team. They are hammering their way through the Eastern Conference–former Bruins farmhand and forever goalie-in-waiting Dan Vladar shut out Boston 4-0

Detroit: The Detroit Red Wings are more competitive this season. The pluses: Dylan Larkin and the rookies. The minuses–would someone play defense?!
