Pittsburgh Penguins, Drew O'Connor

CRANBERRY — The Pittsburgh Penguins, mired in a four-game losing streak, tweaked their roster Monday.

They have recalled forward Drew O’Connor from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre and sent forward Drake Caggiula there.

O’Connor, 24, was one of the first players on the ice for the Penguins’ noon practice at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

O’Connor has two goals and four assists in eight games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.

He is 6 foot 3, 220 pounds and has three goals and three assists in 32 career games with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

O’Connor joined the Penguins as an undrafted free agent out of Dartmouth in 2020 and is working on a one-year contract.

Drake Caggiula, who was recalled last week, did not earn a point during three appearances with the parent club.

The prospect pool isn’t the best, but has slightly improved since Hextall took over. I think there are some guys in WB, who can make an impact on the big club, Drew O’Connor being one of those guys.

Given the Penguins track record with injury history, I think we’ll see more from WB players this year. The ones I think that can help the teams bottom 6 are listed

– Poulin
– O’Connor
– Hallander
– Puustinen
– Nylander

I also think Ty Smith will be here at some point this season
