Penguins Recall Koppanen on Emergency Basis

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday morning that they had recalled forward Joona Koppanen on an emergency basis from Wilkes-Barre-Scranton of the American Hockey League.

There was no immediate explanation for the need to bring up a forward — whether a player is injured or ill. We might get a feel for that when practice starts later Wednesday morning.

Koppanen, 27, has one point, an assist, in five games with the Penguins this season. He has seven goals, 22 points in 57 games with Wilkes-Barre.
