Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes game, Mark Friedman fight

The Pittsburgh Penguins have brought up defenseman Mark Friedman from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre on an emergency recall.

They also placed center Nick Bonino, who is recovering from a lacerated kidney suffered March 9, on the Long-Term Injured list.

Bonino will have to sit out at least 10 games and 24 days. The Penguins’ game against the New York Rangers tonight at 8:08 p.m. at Madison Square Garden will be the fifth he has missed since being injured.

That Friedman was recalled on an emergency basis suggests there is at least a possibility the Penguins would not have had six healthy defensemen for the Rangers game without him.

The Penguins have not announced whether Jeff Petry, who was injured when elbowed in the face by Rangers forward Tyler Motte Thursday, will be available for the game this evening.

Friedman, who adds a feisty element to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ defense when he is in the lineup, has one goal in 11 games with them this season. He has one goal and five assists in 24 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2022-23.
