It’s almost like you had inside information, ha-ha. Can’t argue against the decision.

It’s the correct thing to do. It should have been done a week ago. Blomqvist needs to be away from this team and its coaches imo. What you stated in your previous PHN post is absolutely true. Thanks!

You’re certainly a strong contender for the ‘Master of the Obvious’ 2025 award. Unfortunately, you won’t be getting my vote.

It goes beyond the aging guys, they cannot defend as a team, and their goaltending room is all under 30….so, it means their roster management is where it should be, bottom of the league.

Letang has lost a step this season, but he is not unplayable and EK wonders us with his skating and shooting, but then bewilders us with terrible puck management/passing. However Crosby is still exceptional, top-10 player in the league and Malkin still has the ability to dominate, just not every game and he is well worth his contract. Age is somewhat a factor, but not the major issue. It is hands down finishing and below-average defensive efforts. Remove Crosby and Malkin from this team long-term and we greatly increase our odds of the first overall pick.

Eri, he plays 22 min (Letang) a night – I feel he would be a more efficient player, playing 4 or 5 min less a night for the reasons you stated.

Agree 100%…he is no longer a top pair defenseman, and should be getting about 18 mins a night…have always liked Letang, bit he just doesn’t have it anymore…
AGAIN, this is where the coaching comes in !

I think you mean some of those who used to be THEIR best players are now in their mid/late 30’s. Another seems to be the worst defender to win the Norris trophy ever. Comprehending this?

Everyone keeps complaining about the coaching decisions, but it really can’t be overstated how bereft of talent this team is. As someone else mentioned, letang is clearly not a top pairing dman. There is simply no one else to play that role. Karlsson is not a #1. He still has gamebreaking talent but isn’t an all situation #1. There’s no way to optimize Karlssons talents with this roster, and there’s nobody else to take minutes from letang. There haven’t been any answers available in free agency, and not enough capital to trade to properly build the d corps. Same with… Read more »

In classic Jarry fashion, he’ll probably stand on his head the rest of the season—just in time to lock them firmly into that 8-10 spot at the bottom. The concerning thing is that Blomquist didn’t really seize the opportunity here.

I thought the same thing. The only possible up side to that would be someone willing to take a chance on him during the offseason.

Not really surprising considering he got called up 2 months ago and proceeded to only start 5 out of the next 17 games. Hard to get in a rhythm when he’s on the bench or doing cleanup duty

he was def in a tough situation. That’s why I felt he didn’t seize the opportunity in this challenging scenario. Sending him down can’t hurt.

I think there is a question about what the “opportunity” is—playing behind EK, Graves, Gryz and a bunch of AHLers? Relatively speaking (AHL to NHL), the Baby Pens have a better D and Blomqvist and Larsson will be a good duo in the Calder Cup playoffs.

When I saw florida trade knight…thought they might go for him… with much salary retained of course. Pens should play Jarry hard rest of way. Best for all involved. He is auditioning for another team to keep him off bus trips for rest of career. Management is done with him, and he is done with management.

IMO when the Penguins made a change in the goaltending coach, the goaltending started down hill. Like any other position coach that’s a position that would warrant further evaluation for replacement.

In defense of Chiodo, Jarry and Nedeljkovic were top a 5 tandem in contention for the Jennings Trophy until the team fell apart in later February.
