Pittsburgh Penguins

In yet another sign, the 2021-22 NHL regular season is upon us, the Pittsburgh Penguins released their training camp roster on Saturday. The team invited 58 players to camp, including a few players we’ve all been waiting to see.

Kasper Bjorkqvist, who is not in rookie camp, will attend training camp next week. Fellow prospects Sam Poulin, Nathan Legare, Filip Hallander, and P.O. Joseph will also be in camp and battle for roster spots.

The Penguins training camp will begin on Thursday, Sept. 23. The Penguins’ preseason games begin on Monday, Sept. 27, at home against Columbus. The Penguins second preseason game will be on the road at Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 1.

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will miss training camp. The only other injury in the Penguins organization (at least for now) is 2020 fifth-round pick (149th overall) Raivis Ansons, who was Nathan Legare’s teammate at Baie-Comeau in the QMJHL.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now has full coverage of the Penguins rookie camp this weekend, through Tuesday, including video, interviews, and prospect analysis.

Including PTO signee Matt Bartkowski, the Pittsburgh Penguins have nine defensemen with NHL experience. The Penguins will have 19 forwards with NHL experience, including PTO addition Brian Boyle, Dominik Simon and Michael Chaput, who are on two-way contracts.

Camp will also be our first look at the Penguins lines head coach Mike Sullivan constructs without Crosby and Malkin.

Bold indicates NHL experience. The * indicates injury.
