The Pittsburgh Penguins allowed 14 shots in the first 40 minutes, covered the middle of the ice, and shoved the New Jersey Devils to the perimeter. Oh by the way, the Pittsburgh Penguins also scored three goals and beat New Jersey 3-1 at the Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Penguins penalty kill and defensemen probably earned some time in the sunny hotel courtyard, if they’re allowed. They certainly didn’t give the Devils much daylight.

See what I did there?

“We found in the first game that we gave up a lot, a lot from the middle, a lot of great scoring chances. So we started just to play a little tighter, keep them on the outside,” Cody Ceci said. “They’d wheel around the outside for a long time, some shifts. But we were trying to limit the chances we gave up from the middle and the Grade A’s.

The Penguins had a laundry list of things to tighten up after their loss to New Jersey on Thursday. By the way, New Jersey is going to be a strong team in a couple of years. Some legit goaltending and a few tweaks, look out.
