NHL trade deadline, Mike Matheson, Pittsburgh Penguins

Sometimes when the teacher sends a note home, it’s because a little conference is needed. And, sometimes, it’s a note of appreciation. Thursday night, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mike Matheson got a note of praise, as did goalie Tristan Jarry. The Penguins lost their structure in the third period, but it didn’t matter as they cruised to a 4-1 win at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday night.

“I think we’re making progress. One of the things we talk about with our players is just trying to get better each and every day…,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said. “I think there’s been times when we’ve made progress and gotten better. There’s been experiences where we feel we could have been better. That’s the process.”

The Penguins have played two solid games in their last three, with one clunker in the middle.
