Penguins Game vs. Red Wings Quickly Rescheduled
DETROIT — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ travel issues forced the postponement of their Saturday game against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesar’s Arena. The club will make it up on Monday.
The Red Wings organization announced the new schedule via X. The Penguins will play the Ottawa Senators in Sudbury, Ont. Sunday in the Kraft Hockeyville celebration game Sunday then return to Detroit on Monday. The puck will drop just after 7 p.m.
Detroit will play split-squad games Monday, both hosting the Penguins and visiting the Ottawa Senators.
According to the Penguins, continued mechanical issues prevented their plane from getting to Detroit on Saturday afternoon. Just before 7 p.m., the travel issues forced a postponement.
The Penguins were to take a travel squad of more than 40 players to Detroit and then Sudbury. It’s unknown if the team will take the full party to Sudbury or leave some behind to travel to Detroit on Monday.
In the regular season, teams travel the day before a game.
Here is the Penguins’ previously scheduled lineup for Detroit, but several players, including 2022 first-round pick Owen Pickering, were scheduled to dress for both games.
