Make it Loud: Penguins Return Student Rush Program, BOGO Ticket Offer

Published

Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

As someone who has covered the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise long enough to remember the dark days of the pre-Crosby, but after the Jagr and a healthy-Lemieux era, the Student Rush program injected vitality and life into a flagging arena experience.

Well, it’s back.

In the words of PA Announcer Ryan Mill, “Make it loud…”

The Penguins have reintroduced the Student Rush program and included a BOGO ticket offer for students next Tuesday to jump-start ticket sales. Perhaps the lack of Stanley Cup hype has kept some fans away (And you wonder why I occasionally and publicly worry about the Penguins’ stability in a post-Crosby era).

The Penguins tickets offer via Student Rush begins this Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks and old friend, goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

Next Tuesday, Mike Lange night, the Penguins are offering a BOGO Student Rush offer.

I’ll be cowkicked.

From the Pittsburgh Penguins release:

Today, the Penguins announced that GetGo Student Rush is officially returning for the 2021-22 regular season, starting with the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 16 against the Chicago Blackhawks at 7:00 PM at PPG Paints Arena.

As an added early-season bonus, GetGo will be offering buy one, get one free Student Rush tickets for the Oct. 19 game against the Dallas Stars. Students can purchase tickets here, beginning at 10:00 AM on the day of the game.

The GetGo Student Rush program, relaunched last spring, provides the Penguins an opportunity to introduce new fans to the game of hockey at a student-friendly price.

Students are encouraged to join the GetGo Student Rush Community Group by texting RUSH to 412-534-6266.  In addition to ticket on-sale alerts, college students will also receive special offers from GetGo through this platform.

The Penguins’ Student Rush program was introduced in the mid-1990s and is one of the team’s most popular and well-known marketing initiatives. The program has successfully created long-term relationships with young, active fans that started as Student Rush participants and now attend games as Penguins season ticket holders.
