Penguins Reverse Retro Jersey Release: Robo-Pigeon Returns, Full Schedule
The NHL made official the new reverse retro sweaters on Thursday morning. Over the past couple of months, the jerseys and logos have been leaked online. Now they are official, and the ill-fated robo-pigeon logo will return this season as the Pittsburgh Penguins reverse retro jersey.
The logo debuted for the Penguins’ 1992-93 season, which was their bid for a Stanley Cup three-peat. Those hopes ended when New York Islanders pest David Volek beat goalie Tom Barrasso in overtime of Game 7, Round Two at the Civic Arena. The logo persisted through bankruptcy and the worst era of Penguins hockey since the pre-Mario days, known as Generation Next.
The team has not yet announced plans for Aleksey Morozov or Milan Kraft sweaters, yet.
Fans can pre-order the adidas Penguins Reverse Retro jersey exclusively on the Penguins merchandise website: www.pensgear.com through Nov. 15. ADIZERO Authentic jerseys and replicas will be available in Penguins retail stores, on the adidas and NHL websites on Nov. 15.
Additional retailers will have the jerseys beginning on Nov. 20.

The robo-pigeon logo does not mean the Penguins third jerseys with block letters, which have been used in black and in white over the past two seasons, will be mothballed. The black Penguins third jerseys with diagonal P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H eight times this season, beginning with tonight’s home game versus the LA Kings. The team is 8-1-1 in the iconic diagonal lettering sweaters.
