Dan’s Daily: Big Penguins Reversal, Sportsbook Pushes Fake Crosby Conspiracy

Published

on

Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell, NHL trade

The Calgary Flames fans were waiting for their jilting lover, Johnny Gaudreau, young stars are done for the season, Rick Tocchet will get a below-market-value contract to coach the Vancouver Canucks, Ron Francis has some pieces for the NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins are getting closer to a deal with David Pastrnak, the Pittsburgh Penguins have an important reversal, and a sportsbook pushed an old Sidney Crosby conspiracy theory with some fuzzy facts.

The Penguins have 10 days off beginning next week. I’ve been shopping for cheap getaways, and I just can’t decide. I just got back from Las Vegas (maybe I’ll go back since I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon, and I wouldn’t mind returning to Area 51 without suffering a heat stroke). I have no desire to take a real vacation. Perhaps I’ll cover the WBS Penguins for a day or two, but if you have any chill spots with diners and an Italian restaurant to kill a few days (that won’t drain my wallet), I’m listening!

What about Jim Thorpe, PA? That would kill two birds with one stone.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It was a wild week. Like the Thunderbolt without a seat belt. A Jarry laugh and a big gaffe. The Penguins wrap.

PHN+: It’s been a significant reversal that could greatly improve the Penguins. It’s also a circle of life type thing. Hey, take a look. Brian Dumoulin is returning to form.

Steelers Now: No playoff wins since 2016? Alan Saunders writes — Blame the Steelers offense.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Is this the year Mike Burrows makes his Pittsburgh Pirates debut?

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Seattle Times: The Kraken have three second-round picks, salary cap space, and they’re the least talked-about team on the prowl before the NHL trade deadline.

LA Hockey Now: Guess who is showing up at the LA Kings games? The Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion has been scouting Los Angeles, spurring Kings trade chatter.

Boston Hockey Now: The Bruins don’t want to let David Pastrnak walk for nothing, but a contract will be expensive. Sources tell Boston Hockey Now that the two sides are getting close. The Boston Bruins scoop.

Calgary Hockey Now: Johnny Gaudreau bolted Calgary and signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Monday night was the homecoming, and the boos flowed from the Calgary Flames fans.

ESPN: A day after Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield suffered a season-ending injury, Ottawa Senators center Josh Norris is done for the year, too.

Metro Division, Penguins Playoff Chase

NYI Hockey Now: More good news for the Pittsburgh Penguins, more bad news for the Islanders. The Toronto Maple Leafs exposed the New York Islanders 5-2.

Florida Hockey Now: It’s good news, bad news — The New York Rangers cracked the Florida Panthers 6-2.

USA Today: Owen Power scored his first of the season, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Dallas Stars, 3-2. Buffalo keeps charging.

Buffalo is three points back of the Penguins. That’s bad news.

Washington Hockey Now: Updating Alex Ovechkin’s injury and the looming decision with T.J. Oshie. Washington Capitals notebook.

Bodog podcast: If it weren’t an old-school sportsbook that was once the king of the hill, I wouldn’t bother, but it’s out there. The way the story is told, the NHL hid behind a curtain to give Sidney Crosby to the Penguins.

It’s not true. There are actually pictures of the lottery. Literally, there are pictures, but maybe I included the above to bust them.
