MONTREAL — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ backlog of UFAs, RFAs, and decisions is coming to a head. Friday morning, GM Ron Hextall admitted he would like to shed salary in addition to signing their star center.

Yes, the Penguins are still working on Evgeni Malkin.

It was one of the more frank admissions of his tenure. Hextall would like to shed salary, dump it, or trade it — pick your verb.
