The Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t make a formal announcement, but 2022 fourth-round pick Sergie Murashov will attend the Penguins’ development camp, which begins tomorrow.

Murashov 20, has apparently grown, as well. The team now lists him as 6-foot-2 and 172 pounds, when he was formerly listed as just 6 feet. The athletic goalie played six games in the KHL last season for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, posting an impressive .925 save percentage. In the Russian junior league, he had a 24-4-2 record with a dominating .930 save percentage in 34 appearances.

He immediately becomes one of the players to watch as he comes with a strong pedigree, and the list of Penguins goalie prospects begins and ends with Joel Blomqvist.

It’s not yet known if Murashov will transfer to North America this season, but it seems the Russian hockey league is allowing more players to leave ahead of schedule. The list of Russian players who will leap include heralded Philadelphia Flyers’ prospect Matvei Michkov, who signed with Philadelphia last week two years ahead of schedule.

Murashov has not yet signed an entry-level contract with the Penguins, but his arrival this weekend could facilitate that. The goalie will wear No. 1.
