Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby notched his first goal of the 2025 IIHF World Championship — and it was pure Sidney Crosby — on Tuesday as Team Canada topped France 5-0.

Canada moves to 3-0 at the tournament.

Crosby had no points in Canada’s opening win against Slovenia, three assists and some rough stuff in a win over Latvia on Sunday and scored a sharp power-play goal on Tuesday. He moved in from the right circle and flipped the puck short side over French goaltender Julian Junca for a 3-0 lead in the second period.

“I just tried to take it to the net and read it from there,” Crosby, in typical understated fashion, told NHL Network. “We had some good looks on the power play there, and that was kind of a simple play by taking it to the net. Happy to see it go in.”

Former Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who was named Team Canada player of the game Sunday in the win over Latvia, served as the backup goaltender against France as newly arrived Jordan Binnington got the starting assignment and recorded the shutout.

Team Canada next plays Thursday against Austria.
