The Pittsburgh Penguins’ season has been over for a few weeks, but some of their players aren’t finished just yet.

Goalie Casey DeSmith, winger Drew O’Connor and center Nick Bonino will represent Team USA at the world championships, which are set for May 12-28 in Riga, Latvia and Tampere, Finland.

This will be Bonino’s third appearance in the tournament — he helped the U.S. earn bronze medals in 2015 and 2018 — while O’Connor and DeSmith will be playing for their country for the first time in an international event.

Bonino, 35, was acquired from San Jose at the trade deadline, but appeared in just three games with the Penguins because of a lacerated kidney. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

O’Connor, 24, had five goals and six assists in 46 games with the Penguins this season, as well as eight goals and 14 assists in 20 games with their farm team in Wilkes-Barre. His contract is expiring, and he will be a restricted free agent, with arbitration rights.

DeSmith was 15-16-4, with a 3.17 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 38 appearances with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022-23.
