No. 1 Choice Owen Pickering Going to Wilkes-Barre

Owen Pickering, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first-round draft choice in 2022, has been assigned to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre after completing his season with Swift Current in the Western Hockey League.

Pickering, who was the Broncos’ captain, had nine goals and 36 assists — both of which were highs among Swift Current defensemen — this season.

Pickering, 19, is 6-4, 179 pounds.

In 146 career games in the WHL, he has 20 goals and 67 assists.

It is not known if Pickering will play in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next game, Friday at home against Lehigh Valley,
