Dan’s Daily: Montreal Trade Rumors, Team Canada, Penguins in Trouble

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL trade, Carey Price

The Pittsburgh Penguins released their third jersey on Wednesday, but the team might be in a bit of trouble because they can’t score goals. Early projections have Sidney Crosby centering Team Canada’s top line with familiar linemates. The NHL trade winds are blowing around the Montreal Canadiens, including Carey Price, and Jake DeBrusk might have interest from as many as 12 teams.

No one from Jimmy Murphy to Elliotte Friedman has mentioned any Penguins interest in DeBrusk.

Let’s start with fun stuff.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins’ iconic Gin and Juice jerseys are back. The black sweater with yellow diagonal Pittsburgh will arrive on Dec. 11.

The Penguins were outclassed against the Edmonton Oilers. Every mistake was in the back of the net, while the Penguins struggled to score and lost 5-2.

The Penguins report card–free for all–and I didn’t spare any feelings. Kasperi Kapanen was benched. The Penguins can’t score, and I explained why. We called out the Penguins.

It’s time to worry.

Barstool Sportsbook is offering a promo this week. A $1000 risk-free bet.

NHL Trade Chatter, News, & National Hockey Now

Philly: Good news for the Penguins? Or bad? Sam Carchidi writes, if the Philadelphia Flyers aren’t going to improve, it’s time to put Claude Giroux and others on the market.

TSN: A rebuild is coming for the Montreal Canadiens, but it’s not yet official. Teams are interested and watching if Montreal will put Carey Price on the NHL trade block. He would join Brendan Gallagher and others as available.

Sportsnet: The folks at Sportsnet began constructing Team Canada lines. Crosby with Marchand and Bergeron? We’re gettin’ the band back together. We’re on a mission from God…

Montreal is going to be full of headlines for a while. Daniel Briere is emerging as a GM candidate to watch, too.

Toronto: You saw McDavid light it up on Wednesday. Auston Matthews was better–he netted a hat trick. Look out–Matthews is charging towards 50 goals.

Washington: Martin Fehervary is just 22-years-old and enjoying this NHL life. Now he’s the Capitals’ top-pair defenseman and really loving life.

We had a few bad losses to cover in the National Hockey Now fam.

Vegas: The Golden Knights spotted Anaheim a big lead, and their comeback ran out of time in a 6-5 loss. Goalie Robin Lehner poked his team.

Colorado: Gabriel Landeskog ripped his team, too. Landeskog said, “we weren’t a good hockey team,” as Colorado lost.

Detroit: Tyler Bertuzzi is in COVID protocol, but Lucas Raymond is tearing it up–Detroit is keeping up with the Penguins in the wild-card race, and they won again.

And some inside dirt from our team of reporters–watch the Boston Bruins. Their coach just entered COVID protocol, their minor league team shut down because of an outbreak, and
