Dan’s Daily Links: Jets Calling Again for Brassard

Published

on

Pittsburgh Penguins trade Derrick Brassard

Spin the headline either way. Yes, the Winnipeg Jets are back in on Pittsburgh Penguins center Derick Brassard but the ask is too rich for their blood. So, are they actually back into the discussion? The New York Rangers situation on Chris Kreider could land them a big haul but hurt their long term outlook, Chris Kunitz will have new digs soon and Nashville is hungry…really hungry.

TSN led off with Brassard. Winnipeg called again–as PHN has speculated based on heavy scouting in November and December–but didn’t like the price (TSN)

Note the pressure on Winnipeg and Nashville to get past Vegas. Vegas can lose and the world will keep spinning. If Nashville or Winnipeg doesn’t break through–soon–then jobs are on the line. Oh by the way, Nashville is another team which could upgrade its center depth.

Chris Kunitz will likely finish his year and career somewhere else. Elliotte Friedman has one location in mind (Nichols on Hockey)

The New York hockey media (read: Larry Brooks) are not keen on a Chris Kreider trade unless another team ponies up some big names. (New York Post)

We can probably remove any talk of Eric Staal moving from Minnesota. I heard rumblings several weeks ago. I’d consider those to be DOA unless something changes. The Wild are surging. It’s amazing how fast sellers become buyers (Pioneer Press)

THIS is the most important Penguins story of the season so far. Not Brassard. The Penguins identity crisis. PHN took the temperature of the room yesterday afternoon, then Mike Sullivan doubled down on his challenge in the early eve (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

Also, check out the fun chat we had with Michel Therrien. The Penguins Foundation was kind enough to make him available before a charity game to benefit the Tree of Life survivors. Therrien was the guest head coach of the Israeli team comprised of several former and current national players against a conglomeration of Steelers and Penguins alumni. Therrien talked about what makes the Penguins core so special. For PHN Extra (PHN Extra)

And here is a quick video clip of the chat (PHN Extra)
