Off-Day Analysis: Marino is Back, Penguins Trade Needs Change | PHN+

Pittsburgh Penguins trade talk; John Marino, Casey DeSmith

There are off days when I’d like to write about three sentences, tell you what’s what, and head to the Strip District for a giant eggs-and-bacon breakfast. But today won’t be that day, either, as something is percolating with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The shift not only affects the Penguins trade needs as the April 12 NHL trade deadline approaches, but I can sense your optimism, and it was more than noteworthy that Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan shared in the enthusiasm, too.

When I watched Mike Sullivan’s postgame presser, the words and tone didn’t match the facial expressions. When I listened to it, the perception was much different. Sullivan was effusive.

“It’s a neat feeling…” he said to describe the camaraderie on the bench and in the dressing room.

By the way–a huge stick tap to Brian Metzer and Paul Steigerwald on the Pittsburgh Penguins official postgame show last night. I rarely hear the show, but the level of detail and insight they provided to fans was a gale-force wind of fresh air.
