CRANBERRY — Tristan Jarry’s teammates with the Pittsburgh Penguins probably sensed that something like this might happen.



That management would feel compelled to take some drastic step to address the subpar goaltending that has played such a prominent role in the team’s struggles this season.

Nonetheless, many, if not all, of them seemed to be a bit taken aback when coach Mike Sullivan informed them at the start of practice Wednesday that Jarry would be going on waivers a few hours later.

“You don’t ever expect something like that,” goalie Alex Nedeljkovic said.
