Penguins Video Q&A: Heaping Blame, Playoff Situation, & Mike Sullivan

Published

on

NEW YORK  — It was not a night the Pittsburgh Penguins will want to remember, but they probably should. After a few mistakes and goalie Tristan Jarry not making the “extra save” for them, their territorial domination was for naught. And their bid for a 17th consecutive playoff appearance hangs perilously in the balance.

The Penguins trailed the New York Rangers, 2-0, after 20 minutes, then imploded en route to a 6-0 loss at Madison Square Garden. PHN’s Dan Kingerski tried to make sense of it all, including coach Mike Sullivan’s vigorous defense of defenseman Brian Dumoulin and center Jeff Carter.

Following the game, Sullivan gave a vigorous defense of the pair and criticized the media because “those are easy guys to pick on,” and the Penguins’ coaching staff “respectfully disagrees” with media assessments.

Dan confronted, “why should fans keep watching,” who should start in goal on Monday, what to do with Dumoulin and Carter, and who should the Penguins re-sign this summer?

I really don’t have a problem with Dumo like a lot of guys seem to. Carter on the other hand… It was fun when he was doing good last year.

Alright Sully changes need to be made now. Carter needs a rest and if you wanna start winning games again down this crucial stretch restore the Drew O’Connor, Ryan Poehling, Danton Heinen line which was fast, young and a highly dangerous combination and was actually scoring goals every game. Instead you have played Jeff Carter every match who has been ineffective and his goals against is atrocious. We are fighting for the playoffs, it’s time to start acting like it.

Grandlund might’ve been an upgrade but not for 5 million and his production and his age.

Why does Sullivan keep leaving Jarry in? I know they want him to get reps but come on! They did it the other night too! He gives up too many rebounds and by the time they pull him it’s too late!

What I’m taking away from your response to Mayor Peduto is…that we should bring back MAF. Did I hear you right?
