Penguins Live Chat: Tough Questions, Brayden Yager, & Lining Up the Offseason

Published

on

The weekly PHN live chat might dabble in a few controversial topics Wednesday, including questioning the Pittsburgh Penguins’ core’s desire to finish their careers with the Penguins.

Dan Kingerski of PHN will fire up the studio for the noon chat. Why is it so important that a player remains with one organization? Dan will also tee up the Penguins offseason with the NHL trade rumors surrounding a few young players who could get more ice time with the Penguins than they got with their current teams.

We’ll also discuss Brayden Yager, the Penguins’ 2023 first-round draft pick (14th overall), his assertive WHL playoff run, and if he’s NHL-ready.

And, of course, the core of the chat is you. Viewer questions, comments, and a few good-natured arguments usually break out. Join the fun at 12:00 p.m., and hopefully, Dan will remember to plug in the professional mic and soundboard (unlike last week).

PHN readers also get an easy bonus from DraftKings. Will Carolina force Game 7? Can Dallas close out Colorado? Bet $5, and DraftKings will give you an instant $150 bonus (Bet $5 on the first game, then the house on the second?) Click here for the DraftKings bonus.

With only a year or a year and a half left on his contract, he would garner interest from several teams. The Pens would probably have to RS on Malkin if he would be traded, depending on the return, may be the best for the player and the organization(s). I’m guessing next season will be the last year the Core will remain, esp. if… Read more »

If malkin is doing well enough that several teams would be interested in him then he is playing good enough that the Pens would keep him

This will be an unpopular stance, but would be the wise play. Keep Graves on the 3rd pair with St. Ivany to start the year, I think he’ll bounce back and by mid-season his value will rise. It’s not ideal to have a 3rd pair making 4.5 mil, but a buyout is not realistic, it would be premature and swapping for a bad contract right now is not either. I recall a couple years ago, clamoring to trade Pettersson, now he’s the best defensive D-man the Pens have. I say look for another LHD to pair with either Letang or… Read more »
