Ty Smith, Pitlick Clear Waivers, Assigned to Wilkes-Barre

The Pittsburgh Penguins did not lose any of the five players they placed on waivers Thursday.
Members of that group, headlined by defenseman Ty Smith and winger Rem Pitlick, subsequently were sent to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.
Forward Jonathan Gruden and defensemen Taylor Fedun and Xavier Ouellet are the other players who were pared from the training-camp roster Thursday.

I thought that someone would grab Smith. Possibly a team on the rebuild with space for an extra defenseman who could possibly be flipped at some point.
No one has cap space right now, but since he cleared waivers, he can be traded and arrangements made (deals) with the cap if anyone wants him.
Teams may not have cap space, but he’s signed for 750k. Any team could make space for that contact. I’m amazed that a guy with his skill set wasn’t picked up.
Does this solve the Pens “cap problem?”
Does that solve any Pens’ “cap issues?”
Well, this is just proof that some fans stock in these players is way too high. 31 other GM’s also had no use for them, on pretty low salary hits at that. They could be NHL players at some point, talent is there, more time in the minors will benefit them.
And I’m afraid some other favorites will join them soon, i.e. Nylander and Zohorna. Big Z won’t look as good playing against true NHL talent, sorry.
Zahorna’s looked good against NHL talent for the last two years. There just hasn’t been room. Nylander probably makes it because he’s one of the only guys who can pay top 6 minutes to Jake’s back.
Smith is in a bad situation here, too many bodies between him and a chance to play. Feel bad for him
