Watch Penguins Wrap: Pens Rejuvenated in Third, Jarry Steals 3-2 SO Win

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won five in a row and 16 of their last 18 games. Things were bleak on Sunday as the team was stuck skating in place as the Winnipeg Jets peppered goalie Tristan Jarry with breakaways and odd-man rushes.

Jarry “only” had to make 27 saves but faced 31 scoring chances, including 10 high-danger events, according to NaturalStatTrick.com.

PHN may add a few to that total.

But the Penguins’ slumber was forgiven in the third period as Evgeni Malkin danced around defenders, and Kasperi Kapanen used his skate to deflect Malkin’s pass into the net. Then just nine seconds later, Jeff Carter intercepted Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck’s clearing attempt and snapped it into the open net.

The Penguins survived two lousy periods, and Sidney Crosby scored the lone shootout goal. PHN Editor-in-Chief Dan Kingerski breaks down the game, the controversial hit on Teddy Blueger, what Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan had to say as well as how Winnipeg got so many odd-man breaks and breakaway chances.

The Pittsburgh Penguins win 3-2 (SO). Get the PHN breakdown and Dan’s Grapes homage jacket.
