Penguins Q&A: Why Can’t Pens Hold Leads, PP1, Goaltending & More

The questions surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins are simple. The answers, not so much.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski did a Q&A from PPG Paints Arena after another blown third-period lead and another loss to the New York Islanders. This time, the Penguins earned a point in the 4-3 OT loss.

The Penguins remain winless against three of the top four teams in the Metro Division.

Their lone victory was over the New York Rangers on Dec. 20 at PPG. Otherwise, the Penguins lost four (0-2-2) against the Carolina Hurricanes, three against New Jersey (0-2-1), and now all four to the Islanders (0-3-1).

“This one is tough to swallow. It stings,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “For the majority of the night, we were the better team.”

Kingerski took some issue with Sullivan’s edict there would be no changes on the Penguins’ power play and opined that perhaps it is time to try something different in the third period.

Kingerski had plenty of praise for one surprising part of the Penguins game, a few players who earned meritorious commendations, Jeff Carter and the third line, and Dan was asked point blank about Tristan Jarry’s performances.

Jarry had a few things to say in the Penguins locker room that we got into, as well.
