Perhaps the anticipation is building to an uncomfortable degree for Pittsburgh Penguins fans who want to see what moves the team does, or does not, make this offseason. It’s not unusual for things to remain somewhat quiet during the Stanley Cup final, which has not started yet due to a lag in the schedule between the conference finals and Saturday’s opening game between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers.

In the meantime, there are a lot of things for Penguins followers to ponder leading into the coming weeks.

Here are some the things that made PHN go hmmm over the past week:

Saturday: As his team’s season came to an end, Penguins top forward prospect Brayden Yager earned a good amount of praise from his junior team, the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Penguins declined to make offers to two prospects by the prescribed deadline, making them free agents.

Sunday: Three scenarios for moves this offseason that have gotten some traction in the webosphere — including one involving goaltender Tristan Jarry — might not represent the direction the Penguins should take.

Monday: Penguins coach Mike Sullivan has become something of a polarizing figure. Here’s an analysis of his Catch-22 situation.

Tuesday: What might happen with the Penguins’ remaining free agents, and what will P.O Joseph’s offseason look like?

Wednesday: PHN’s Dan Kingerski covered a lot of ground in a live chat, including the free agent market, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins power play.

Rickard Rakell and Jeff Carter had emotional stories that might have flown under the radar.

Thursday: Pondering what will make a successful season was just one of the strong questions tackled by PHN’s Dan Kingerski in a Q&A.

Friday: Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson makes a foray into ownership by buying a stake in a football (you might call it soccer) club.

Would Jonathan Drouin, Dakota Joshua or Vladimir Tarasenko be a good fit for the Penguins among pending free agents?

You can tell when we are in the offseason. Writers will stoke the fire on a subject and spend what feels like 80% of the time on a subject that has less than 5% chance to happen. Let’s see if we can go a few days this week without Jarry being mentioned.

Jeff Carter needs to go away. Shoo. Scram. Leave us alone. Thank you.
