Pittsburgh Steelers bets

The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to stop their freefall when they host the Denver Broncos at 1 p.m. Sunday at Heinz Field. The Steelers bets are a weird dichotomy of tickets vs. money, too. Splits like that usually present opportunities for favorable lines.

More people are placing Steelers bets. More money is on the Broncos.

The Steelers (1-3) have lost three games in a row since opening the season by upsetting the Bills in Buffalo. Last week, the Steelers fell 27-17 on the road to the Green Bay Packers.

The Broncos (3-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, 23-7 to the visiting Baltimore Ravens.

The teams met last season in Week 2 at Heinz Field and the Steelers escaped with a 26-21 victory. Safety Terrell Edmunds sacked Broncos quarterback Jeff Driskel on fourth-and-2 at the Steelers 15-yard line with 1:55 remaining.

Broncos-Steelers Betting Preview

The calls are becoming louder from the media and fans for the Steelers to bench 39-year-old quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He has completed 64.1% of his passes for 1,033 yards through four games but has just four touchdown passes while being intercepted four times.

Coach Mike Tomlin doubled down on Roethlisberger this week and said he has no plans of benching the 18-year veteran and going with backup Mason Rudolph.

A rebuilt offensive line hasn’t helped Roethlisberger as he has been sacked at least twice in all four games. Now the Steelers must face a fearsome Broncos pass rush that included linebacker Von Miller, who already has 4 ½ sacks.

Roethlisberger has been sacked 10 times in 180 dropbacks this season after being taken down 13 times in 621 dropbacks over 15 games in 2020.

Throwing the deep ball has also been a problem. Roethlisberger is averaging just 5.5 yards an attempt.

The Broncos have their own quarterback problems as Teddy Bridgewater was knocked out of last week’s game with a concussion. He is expected to play after completing 72.1% of his passes this season for 892 yards and five scores with no interception.

Drew Lock subbed for Bridgewater against the Ravens and turned in a rather uninspired performance. He completed 12 of 21 attempts for 113 yards with no TDs and one pick.

The Broncos can compensate, though, with a rushing attack that is fourth in the NFL. Melvin Gordon III (248) and rookie Javonte Williams (186) have combined for 434 yards on the ground this season.

The Steelers rank 11th in the league in run defense.

The Broncos-Steelers Bets We Love

Denver Broncos -105 (DraftKings)

This is a case of the wrong team being favored. While the Broncos’ three wins are against teams with a combined 2-10 record, it is surprising they are slight underdogs here.

It makes sense to bet the better team, especially on the moneyline, which present better value than betting the spread.

The Steelers are averaging just 16.8 points a game, which ties them for 28th place in the 32-team NFL. They have scored more than 17 only once, in the Week 1 win over the Bills.

The Broncos are giving up just 12.3 points a game and it’s difficult to imagine the Steelers getting their offense untracked against that unit.

Betting Prediction

The Steelers have traditionally had trouble with the Broncos, even when they have had much better teams.

The Broncos lead the all-time series 20-12-1 and Roethlisberger is just 3-4 against them in seven career stats. Look for that trend to continue Sunday.
