Inspired by ’90s Night at PPG Paints Arena, I hearken back to the exciting, yet star-crossed ‘in-between’ years for the Penguins. I’m talking Jaromír Jágr, Martin Straka, Robert Lang and the boys, in addition to the first couple years of Mario Lemieux comeback. Weird to think about that now, but the angst was real for those close-but-no-title teams.
At the 16-minute mark, Brian Metzer of the Penguins Radio Network joined me to discuss the pre-trade deadline status for several Penguins and what Jim Rutherford‘s best course of action might be.
Finally, at the 35-minute mark, I laid out my optimal line combinations based on shot metrics and perceived chemistry, especially for Riley Sheahan and Jake Guentzel. Hint: They probably shouldn’t play together.
Thanks for listening to the Pittsburgh Hockey Now podcast network! See you next week.
