Sam Lafferty Pittsburgh Penguins

Sometimes the shiny new toy gets more attention and affection than the toys already in the toybox because its new. And sometimes the attention is deserved. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sam Lafferty was a surprise of training camp as he asserted himself into the Penguins lineup discussion. Perhaps some saw it coming, but he was better than advertised and became the first forward recall when Penguins injuries quickly mounted at the beginning of the season.

A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton source placed him high on the Penguins prospects list when PHN compiled our annual Top 10 list.

“He’s not the best player on the ice, but he’s always one of the best,” our source said.

Lafferty seized his chance when given. It will be a challenge to get Lafferty into the Penguins lineup, but there are a couple of opportunities.
