Sergei Murashov Coming to America, Signs ELC with Penguins

In what could well be a sign that goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov could make the move to North America for the upcoming season, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

Murashov, 20, a fourth-round draft pick by the Penguins in 2022, thus far has played in his native Russia. In an engaging interview with reporters — in fairly good English — during the Penguins development camp earlier in July, he indicated he still needed to decide which continent he would play on this season.

There is not currently a deal in place that would allow Murashov to be under contract with an NHL team and continue to play in Russia.

PHN ranked Murashov as the Penguins’ fifth-best prospect and projects him as a future NHL starter.

Over the past two seasons while in the top-tier KHL with his hometown Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Murashov was 4-1-2 in seven games with a 1.71 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.

In four seasons with the junior-level MHL, he is 73-30-12 with a 2.04 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and 22 shutouts in 125 games.

Murashov was named the MHL’s Best Goaltender in 2022-23 after setting MHL career highs in wins (24), goals-against average (1.53), save percentage (.948) and shutouts (11).

Hoping he continues the long line of great Russian goalies in the NHL right now. You would think one of our prospects is going to hit big soon.

Definitely a future goalie in Pittsburgh. Hopefully, sooner than later!
