Dan’s Daily: Hungry Habs; Murashov Sets Record; The Jarry Debate

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, Sergei Murashov. NHL Rumors, Tristan Jarry

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in Florida today, but prospect goalie Sergei Murashov set a franchise record. Coach Mike Sullivan is still experimenting with the defense pairings, hoping to find a setup that doesn’t make fans want to throw real bricks at the TV. Boko Imama is quickly becoming a popular player, and he had some great quotes in the Penguins’ locker room about how he views his role. Dave Molinari took a strong stance on Tristan Jarry’s winning ways.

Elsewhere in the Daily, the NHL rumors are churning around the Calgary Flames throwing big money at an RFA this summer. The hungry, hungry Habs keep fighting for a playoff spot. The Vancouver Canucks dominated the New York Rangers in a ridiculously lopsided game but still lost, and the Edmonton Oilers might be in crisis as both of their star players are down with injuries.

I am off to Florida this morning. Wish me luck–I’m flying the yellow airline on a game day. I’m 71 for 71, and we’re doing all 82 for you. Of course, after the next 10 games, I’ll hole up in Wilkes-Barre because I’m apparently addicted to hotel rooms, small bags of chips, gas station wraps, and streaming services.

I really like Tampa but I’m staying at Pelican Bay near the airport this time (downtown hotels were insanely expensive). If anyone has any experience in that little area, let me know if there’s a little spot I need to hit.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Boko, Boko! The Penguins tough guy delivered some great quotes about the rest of the season and his role on the team. Sullivan is also pushing buttons to positive effect. Some raw video and analysis, too. Go inside the Penguins locker room.

Some readers have asked about Joel Blomqvist’s status because he hasn’t played since being re-assigned. We’ve got some answers, as well as more Penguins injury updates and the new lines at Penguins practice.

So, you think Tristan Jarry playing well is a bad thing? Molinari puts that idea and the downside of Jarry winning on the spit and roasts it. Here’s the other side of Jarry’s winning ways.

And goalie prospect Murashov looks like he could be something special. Last night, he set a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins record by winning. Again. He’s won 10 in a row, breaking Matt Murray’s record.

NHL Rumors, News, & National Hockey Now

NHL TR: Darren Dreger said that he doesn’t just think Calgary is going to make a run at a big-ticket RFA this summer. He KNOWS so. Calgary has picks to spare and a lot of money to spend.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The coach is not happy. Sheldon Keefe absolutely tore into his recently extended defenseman after the Ottawa Senators beat the New Jersey Devils.

NYI Hockey Now: Ever heard of Gleb Veremyev? He’s perhaps the top college free agent, and the New York Islanders are about to sign him, stealing him away from several interested teams. Here’s the New York Islanders news.

Forever Blueshirts: The Canucks outshot the Rangers 39-12, but lost 5-3. Neither figure is a typo; I double-checked it. Yet, the drama for the Canucks continued as Elias Pettersson was injured, and, somehow, some way, the New York Rangers won.

Montreal Hockey Now: Hey, hey. Those wild and crazy kids in Montreal won’t go away. They were down 4-1 to the mighty Colorado Avalanche but roared back to force overtime. They earned a point and kept their playoff spot. It’s looking good for the Montreal Canadiens.

Additional news: Blackhawks forward Pat Maroon will retire after the season. The Edmonton Oilers are dealing with injuries to both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, though neither injury is thought to keep them out long. Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis was injured late against the LA Kings.

And the Wayne Gretzky statue in Edmonton was vandalized. Stop it.
