Game 2, Canadiens vs. Lightning Odds, Predictions and Picks (June 30, 2021)

Pittsburgh Penguins, tampa bay lightning, nhl playoffs

For a brief moment in Game 1, we hit our long shot of a Blake Colemen goal. We did alert our sports bettors that Tampa Bay Lightning would get bottom-six goals, and our backup longshot target Yanni Gourde was later given credit for the second Tampa Bay goal in the 5-1 Lightning win.

Our bet for Tampa Bay to firmly take Game 1 also stood.

Let’s take a look at Game 2 of this Stanley Cup Final matchup from a betting perspective in our Canadiens vs. Lightning betting preview with odds, picks, and predictions.

Game 2 will be a different breed. Montreal wasn’t prepared for the magnitude and energy of the Stanley Cup Final, and Tampa Bay jumped on them in Game 1. Montreal will be ready in Game 2, so expect a tighter game.

Tampa Bay is still a better team, by far, but Montreal is settled. That suffocating Montreal defensive scheme will be tightened with maximum torque on the Lightning, so the first mistake could decide the game.

We still like Tampa Bay to win in front of their home crowd because they are the better team, but we won’t touch the 1.5 spread this time.

Nikita Kucherov is a playoff animal and popped two more goals in Game 1, so we won’t buy down the over, either.

Canadiens vs. Lightning Betting Pick (June 30, 2021)

Montreal got behind. Montreal got ugly. And Tampa Bay filled the net as Montreal tried to send a message. Tampa Bay’s killer power play capped off the game when Steve Stamkos lit the lamp, so Montreal will have to keep their composure.

If Montreal takes a few penalties, that is the break Tampa Bay needs.

Conversely, Montreal’s kids should be ready for game 2. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Cole Caufield, and Nick Suzuki are the players most able to make a difference, as they’ve done throughout the improbable Canadiens run. Montreal doesn’t need a lot of chances. They just need to equalize Tampa Bay.

Game 1 was easy to call for the Lightning. Montreal has to reverse course and remember why they are in the Stanley Cup Final to even the series.

We think they will, even if they don’t win.

Canadiens vs. Lightning Game 2 Odds

Here are the Canadiens vs. Lightning Stanley Cup Final Game 2 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Canadiens+1.5 (-157)+172O 5 (-134)
Lightning-1.5 (+130)-200U 5 (+110)

Lightning Bets We Like With a Tampa Bay Win

Blake Coleman Scores a Goal (+350, FanDuel).

Yep, 18-1.

We’re going to stick with the Tampa Bay bottom six. As the game gets uglier, they get more important. And they know how to play the ugly style. The Tampa Bay Lightning grinders broke open Game 1. Look for another goal in Game 2.

At those odds, you keep betting it. Hit once in four games, and you’re ahead.

We’re also watching the odds on Victor Hedman (+330) too. The big man is due to light the lamp.

Canadiens Bets We Like With a Montreal Win

Canadiens to win AND UNDER 5.5 goals (+128, DraftKings)

There isn’t much difference in the odds between buying up the UNDER to 5.5 and keeping it at 5.0, but there is a huge difference on the ice.

If not for the late power-play goal in Game 1, the O/U would have pushed. With a Montreal win, certainly, take the under, but give yourself a touch of breathing room for that fifth goal. A 3-2 OT win is possible.

Canadiens vs. Lightning Stanley Cup Final Prediction

This is the best hope for Montreal to stay in the series. Go down 2-0, and Tampa Bay will smell blood in the water.

Tampa Bay having fans in the arena is a huge help, but Montreal survived the full barn in Vegas. Bet cautiously here because Montreal will be a scorned yet desperate team in Game 2. We think this goes the distance before it is decided, and overtime is a possibility.

Montreal keeps it close, but Tampa eeks out a low-scoring win.
