Steelers-Chargers Betting Odds, Predictions; Bet $10 to Win $200

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking to bounce back and so will their opponent when they face the Los Angeles Chargers at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Ben Roethlisberger will play, so Steelers bets are moving. We recommend taking a few of the risk-free promo bets this week, too.

The Steelers (5-3-1) tied the Detroit Lions 16-16 last week, ending Pittsburgh’s four-game winning streak. It felt more like a loss for the Steelers considering the Lions are 0-8-1 and the only winless team in the NFL.

The Chargers (5-4) dropped to a 27-20 decision to the Minnesota Vikings at home last Sunday. Los Angeles has lost three of its last four games following a 4-1 start.

This is the first meeting between the teams since Week 6 in 2019 when the Steelers notched a 24-17 road win on Sunday Night Football.

Devlin “Duck” Hodges, now of the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks, started at quarterback in place of the injured Roethlisberger and completed 15 of 20 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Steelers-Chargers Betting Preview

COVID-19 protocols could have had a bigger impact on this game than it will.

Roethlisberger missed last week’s game after testing positive for the coronavirus but has been cleared to play Sunday. Strong safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is expected to miss the game because of protocols.

Chargers star defensive end Joey Bosa, who sat out last week after being deemed a close contact to defensive tackle Jerry Tillery, who tested positive, will play Sunday. His status had been in doubt until Saturday night. Bosa has 5 ½ sacks and three forced fumbles this season and the Chargers managed just two sacks against the Vikings without him.

Mason Rudolph filled in for Roethlisberger against the Lions and had an uneven performance. He was 30-for-50 passing for 242 yards and one touchdown with one interception. The TD came on the Steelers’ opening drive.

Rookie running back Najee Harris helped pick up some of the slack for the Steelers’ offense, rushing 26 times for 105 yards. It was the first-round draft pick’s second 100-yard game.

The Steelers defense will be without its best pass rusher as outside linebacker T.J. Watt (knee/hip) will sit out after being hurt last week. Watt has 12 1/2 sacks.

The Chargers are hoping for a better performance from QB Justin Herbert. He was 20 of 34 for 195 yards last week and completed just two passes longer than 20 yards.

Seemingly everyone has jumped off the Steelers’ bandwagon following that ugly tie. However, the Steelers won their four previous games and are going up against an opponent that hasn’t played well over the last month.

It is certainly not out of the question to think the Steelers can win, even if Roethlisberger doesn’t play.

Najee Harris to score a TD (-120) DraftKings

Yes, this is hardly an original recommendation in this space. However, Harris has found the end zone in six of his nine career games.

He is due to score a touchdown after being shut out by the Lions.

Steelers Betting Prediction

The last two times the Steelers played the Chargers in Southern California, they won while starting backup quarterbacks. They did it with Michael Vick in 2015 and Hodges two years ago.

The Steelers’ chances are even better this time now that Roethlisberger is cleared to play.
