Dan’s Daily: Fists Fly, Tears Flow, Tom Wilson Injured in NY Gong Show

You knew some revenge would be served, but the New York Rangers brought the house on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. One game after Washington Capitals villain Tom Wilson injured New York star Artemi Panarin with a hair pulling takedown following an assault on Pavel Buchnevich. One day after the league demurred any credible punishment, the New York Rangers did their best to serve some frontier justice.

And it was wild. Also in the Daily, the Pittsburgh Penguins off-day blog, and Marc-Andre Fleury is now the third all-time winningest goalie in NHL history.

It was a crazy, crazy day…

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The East Division is a powder keg. Sidney Crosby defended himself and more.

The Rangers also fired President John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton on Wednesday, too. Insane day.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Shayne Gostisbehere was suspended for two games for his late boarding on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mark Friedman.

Here we go…

NY Post: The Rangers responded. SIX fights in the opening in four minutes. The penalty box was standing room only. And, Tom Wilson was injured in the process. Here’s the Rangers side.

There was one touching moment in the game that will stick with those who saw it, too. T.J. Oshie, whose father, “Coach Oshie,” passed away, scored a hat trick. And it was just a bit too much.

Boston Hockey Now: There are no winners in the Tom Wilson incident.

I surely hope the NHL was embarrassed by this Gong Show in the biggest media market in the world. I hope the NHL makes significant changes, so this (expletive deleted) doesn’t happen again.

Of course, hope in one hand….you know what in the other…

NHL news…

TSN: Win No. 490. Marc-Andre Fleury is now the third all-time winningest goalie in NHL history.

OC Register: Anze Kopitar hit 1000 career points.

Anyone else notice two cool milestones from two great players who were totally eclipsed by the nonsense in New York??

Defending Big D: The defending Western Conference champs are on the brink of elimination. Dallas is hanging by a thread after a bad loss on Wednesday night.

It’s a short links column today. Tom Wilson simply sucked the air out of everything. I hope the NHL is happy…
