Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin suffered a home burglary while he was at the arena during his team’s game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Notably missing were his three Stanley Cup rings.

The team confirmed the theft on Tuesday. KDKA TV was the first to report it, and our partners at WPXI also confirmed the incident.

Neither the team nor Malkin released details but were working with team security and local police.

Thursday night, the Allegheny County police released a statement that the rings were discovered inside Malkin’s home.

“County Police have learned Evgeni Malkin’s Stanley Cup Championship rings have been located inside his residence. This remains an active investigation, and we continue to ask anyone with information to contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.”

Stanley Cup rings can be worth more than $30,000.

KDKA reported Malkin’s security system was down during the time of the robbery (about 8:30 p.m. Saturday), and his safe was left open.

Allegheny County PD wrote in their initial release that there was no evidence the burglary was tied to several high-profile robberies of other professional athletes around the country. Those other high-profile robberies include Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, whose house was targeted in December while he played on Monday Night Football in Dallas.

Burglars also targeted Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce during games in October. A pair of NBA players were also robbed during games in October and September.

I don’t believe that to be the case as KDKA reported his safe was opened and police were called while he was at the game Saturday.
