The Fun Crosby Moments in Canada’s Latest Win

The game itself was a snoozer, not worthy of recapping words, let alone a few hours to watch the round-robin game between Team Canada and Austria at the 2025 IIHF World Championships. The allure of Team Canada remains the final career game for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who is teaming with long-time teammate Sidney Crosby one last time.

Canada won 5-1, and Crosby scored the fifth goal, assisted by Bo Horvat and another close friend, Nathan MacKinnon.

Fleury was denied the shutout but coasted to the easy win, facing just 16 shots. Austria scored the only goal of the first period, but Canada quickly dominated the rest of the contest, peppering Austrian goalie Florian Vorauer with 52 shots.

No, the World Championships are not a tournament of parity.

Crosby’s offense wasn’t the story of the day. In fact, teammates protecting Crosby first caught hockey fans’ attention as 2024 first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini raced to the pile to stick up for Crosby. Instead, he needed to catch Crosby.

It’s nice to see someone protecting Crosby for once, eh?

Perhaps trade rumors between the San Jose Sharks and the Penguins will begin soon?

As Canada outshot Austria en route to Canada’s 4-0 record, Austria did everything they could to defend one of the best players of all time.

Of course, the opponents are human, and it’s a thrill for some and an honor for some players, most of whom will never play in the NHL against Crosby, to have a moment.

The handshake line at the end of the game may have more closely resembled an Italian wedding. Crosby was the last one through the line, and you’ll notice everyone else finished long before Crosby was even to the halfway point.
