Watch: Nedeljkovic Makes Ridiculous Glove Save
The crowd was fooled. Groans swept through PPG Paints Arena as if the Calgary Flames scored the first goal of the game Saturday.
Nope.
It was a natural assumption. Calgary defenseman Rasmus Andersson pinched and was wide open in the right circle. The perfect carrom off the back wall to Anderssson moved faster than the goaltender. However, that’s when Nedeljkovic made a save for the year-end highlight reels.
Nedeljkovic did the splits post-to-post and somehow managed to make a glove save for Andersson’s shot, which was ticketed for the top corner.
It took a few moments for everyone to realize Calgary didn’t score and that Nedeljkovic had the puck in his trapper. And then the crowd roared its appreciation. Even Andersson was caught with his mouth agape, surprised he hadn’t scored. Referees reviewed the play to make sure the puck didn’t cross the line in Nedeljkovic’s glove, but the replay didn’t take long. It was a clear save.
Nedeljkovic indeed saved the Penguins, and a couple of minutes later, Penguins winger Anthony Beauvillier backhanded a shot past Calgary goalie Dan Vladar for a 1-0 lead.
