The Pittsburgh Penguins will face…the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. as head coach Mike Sullivan and staff will oversee the first of two intra-squad scrimmages in Phase 3 training camp.

The game will consist of two 25-minute periods, with a break in-between. The coaches will also insert special teams situations. The Penguins press release did not indicate if officials would participate, but earlier this week the NHL requested the Toronto Maple Leafs not use officials as part of their practices.

Josh Getzoff and Phil Bourque will provide commentary.

The game is closed to the public, Penguins YouTube channel will show the game live: Click here

The game will also be shown on Facebook Live, Here.

And on the Penguins app.

The Penguins will travel to Toronto, their hub city on July 24. Their first and only exhibition game is July 26 at 4 p.m. against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Qualifying Round series against the Montreal Canadiens begins Aug. 1.

Patric Hornqvist and others including Sam Poulin and P-O Joseph are unlikely to participate. They were part of the group of nine players whom the Penguins voluntarily quarantined after secondary exposure to COVID-19. The quarantine began at the beginning of the week as Phase 3 training camps began, and will likely last several more days as the coronavirus can take 12 or more days to show symptoms.

Sam Lafferty and Evan Rodrigues are battling for a lineup spot in Hornqvist’s absence. Lafferty and Rodrigues have skated on the third line RW beside center Jared McCann and LW Patrick Marleau.

The Penguins lines through camp have been consistent. Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry are the probable goalies on Saturday.
