PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins have won four in a row. The team returned from the holiday break and beat the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2. Phil Kessel and Derick Brassard each had two goals and Matt Murray won his fourth game in a row.

But Kessel was the star of the show. Chants of “We want Kessel” echoed through the PPG Paints Arena as the crowd wanted Kessel to get the hat trick.

The Penguins are not where they want to be, but their improvement has been significant from just one month ago.

The Penguins fired 40 shots on Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard and an empty net but yielded only 28 shots. The crowd wanted Kessel to get the hat trick.
